NTEDi Book Scholarship Awards Celebration May 16, 2014

Tulsa, OK, May 16, 2014: The North Tulsa Economic Development Initiative (NTEDi) nonprofit organization invites you to support and participate in our 2nd Annual Book Scholarship Awards Celebration on May 16, 2014 from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm at the OKAPI Event Center located at 2550 West Edison Street, Tulsa, OK. The theme for the celebration is “Believe, Achieve, and Succeed”.

The NTEDi Book Scholarship Awards celebration supports the continued education of deserving Tulsa students. A dynamic keynote speaker, Mr. Jamaal Dyer will be on hand and we will be providing entertainment through music. Mr. Jamaal Dyer is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. He has toured all over the country while attending the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. One of his most notable performance was singing Amazing Grace in the Cathedrals in Rome. Jamaal earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Mass Communication with emphasis in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and a Master’s of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from Langston University. Jamaal returned to Tulsa because he wanted to help the young people in his community overcome adversity, understand their worth and become successful. Although his degree was in Journalism, he felt that his true calling was to help people. Thus, he continued to work in the family business, Dyer Memorial Chapel Inc., and he began working at KIPP Tulsa College Preparatory School. He is currently employed with Family and Youth Intervention Services as a Therapist. Jamaal is involved in various community, professional and religious organizations. For many years Jamaal has been known for his melodious baritone voice used to sing praises to God. His voice has been his ministry for over 15 years. However, on July 7, 2013 God wanted to use Jamaal’s voice in another way and that was to preach the Gospel. Jamaal accepted the call to preach and preached his first sermon on January 26, 2014. Jamaal’s life motto is: “I just want to help somebody! I want to encourage the saved and introduce sinners to the savior. If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living shall not be in vain.”

Dr. Lana Turner-Addison stated that “it is important that we do more to help support the continued learning of students through multiple avenues, by providing additional supplemental funds toward the cost of books and supplies NTEDi is able to help relieve some of the cost burden of college expenses for some students.” For many students, a book scholarship is their best chance to support them with earning a college education.” According to, in 2012-2013 the Oklahoma average cost for books and supplies at four-year public colleges was $1,155.00.
